Using Hatbox
Hatbox is a browser-local Character chat workspace. Hatbox Connect relays ChatGPT sign-in; OpenRouter connects directly. Hatbox provides no provider account, model, hosted content, or cross-device sync.
You use your own ChatGPT or OpenRouter account and must meet its eligibility requirements. Provider availability, pricing, credits, and limits apply separately. Keep sign-in details private. Hatbox is currently free; that can change.
Your content and intellectual property
Use only content you have the rights or permission to use; importing something gives you no rights in another person's work.
We claim no ownership of your content. You permit only the processing needed for actions you request. Rights in generated output depend on applicable law and your Provider’s terms.
Acceptable use
The law and your Provider’s policies still apply. You must not:
- use Hatbox or imported content unlawfully or infringe another person's rights;
- bypass authentication, rate limits, or safety controls;
- interfere with the service, probe other users, distribute credentials, or submit malicious Character Card content.
Hatbox never silently switches models to work around a policy, limit, or outage.
Third-party services and local data
Providers, browser stores, and Character Card sources have their own terms, pricing, and availability; we do not control them. Review the OpenAI Terms of Use, plus any policies that apply to your account and location.
We do not guarantee uninterrupted service, a particular model, or compatibility with every Character Card or browser. If you opt in to product analytics, PostHog processes only the limited events described in Privacy. Local records can be lost if you clear site data — export a backup via Me › Data.
Changes and liability
We may change or discontinue features and may restrict access to protect the service, comply with law, or respond to misuse. Changes to these terms appear on this page with an updated date.
Hatbox is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect damages or lost data. If you are dissatisfied, your remedy is to stop using Hatbox and remove your local data.
